I believe that LAs are for races, not classes. I hold them in totally different views. If you hold a different opinion, then fine - as I have said several times, this is only mine - and as I also said in my last post, if that works for you, then go for it. You have no obligation to do anything other than ignore my advice if it doesn't work for you. It is that simple. I could say that my opinion comes from actual play experience - I have been playing D&D 3.x since it came out, and with the gestalt rules since they came out. However, we have not played mixing gestalt and regular classes using an ECL - because I don't allow mixing of the two in my games, and the GMs that I have had that use the gestalt rules don't allow mixing either. I have mentioned several times as to why it is not allowed in my groups, so take from that experience what you will. Again, I do not believe that LA is meant to be used in that manner. Based on that assumption, I also believe that you should not mix gestalt and regular. I have bolded the above just to get the point across that it is my opinion, nothing more. That is the only point I was trying to make. If you, the original poster, or anyone else don't see fit to follow my advice, that is your business - just as not following anyone else's advice would be mine. Now, your suggestion of ECL may very well seem balanced on paper, but I have certain issues with ECL and LA seeming balanced on paper and not being balanced in play - something I have seen fairly often in play. However, that is a totally unrelated conversation, so I will not expand upon that and further derail the thread. In a nutshell: On paper, the ECL at first blush appears balanced. However, I, personally, would never use it because, in my opinion, LA isn't to be used in that manner. Thus, I was tendering my opinion that the two should not be mixed, because a 14/14 gestalt and a 14 single-class are not balanced. Of course, if it works for your group, please use it. I am simply stating my opinion, and you are stating yours. :) I will leave the discussion at that, and let it go back towards discussion of the OP's original question.
