[QUOTE="DDK, post: 710310, member: 6469"] I wanted it changed for a lot of reasons. After almost six years of being a net-junkie, I've gone through a gazillion nicks and I'm just tired of them all. This is going to sound weird but... every nick is like a different personality and it was almost as if I was roleplaying every time I posted under a certain nick. DDK are my initials and so I figure if I'm going to unconsciously adopt a personality every time I post under a nick, it may as well be my own :) Also, I didn't want people thinking I'm just changing nicks to avoid my reputation. I'm a human being and I make mistakes and being an extremely volatile and outspoken person whose only real form of social interaction is the net, I tend to make a helluva lot of them. Blunders, bloopers, saying and doing stupid things without thinking, making an ass out of myself (it's a very complex process, requires Skill Focus [Craft: Ass]), and whatnot and I figure that not only does the perception that I'm hiding from all those mistakes follow me if I just start a new nick, but for the hundreds of people I interact with over the net, many of them will not realize the change and therefore I get away with my mistakes by default. People have to be reminded of their faults in order to ever change and grow and not make the same mistakes, over and over and over again. Then there's also the fact that I want to be taken more seriously and to do that, I have to take myself more seriously. It's all very well to have dozens of nicks that reflect aspects of your personality, and engage people online with that immediate defensive cover of a nick, but at the end of the day, if your nick is plain and reflects your true self, then people will see that you're not hiding from anything or anyone and are simply you. Now, that isn't to say OTHERS hide behind nicks, I'm simply saying that to me, that's how it felt when *I* was using a nick. It's all very complex. And it also has to do with amalgamating various nicks across various boards and emails and yahoo groups and the whole lot of them. Like Dinkledog said, instead of having a dozen different nicks for a dozen different boards, I have one nick now for all of them. I'm DDK in email, DDK here, DDK at nutkinland (although, I rarely post there), DDK at RPGNet, DDK in EZ Board (or at least, will be as soon as I figure out how to transfer ops from other nicks), DDK at WotC boards (haven't changed that yet), etc. Heh, my 'other' nicks are only for the PBP and even then, now that I don't have Fourecks, I'll probably drop Narrator and the only reason I'm still in control of Bor is that I haven't been bothered to check if I can delete the nick yet or not, Clete is johnsemlak's (gotta remind him to change the email over), Garik was Gary Holian's (until I kicked him out of my PBP) and I have to keep because he remains a party member until we get a fifth player (wanna join?) and... umm...
