What happened to the Vasharans?

I was thinking back to a very strange adventure that i did in AD&D when I started wondering what happened to the Vasharans? I mean, they seemed to have dispeared. Are they still around?

I was under the impression that the Vasharans originated in 3e in the BoVD. I'd never heard of them before then (or since).

A homebrew. The DM played AD&D even through 3.x (and still does). Though he had looked through the other books. We never got a name, but that was the only thing I could find that fit the description, perfectly actually. I was researching demon lords on wikipedia when I ran across the description. Most likely A) they existed previous to 3.x, B) the DM made them based off drow and just happened to follow the same train of though WoTC used, C) he saw the race in the book or online and put htem in his campaign.

I'm 99% certain they've only ever been mentioned in the Book of Vile Darkness. It's not so much that they've disappeared than that they've never been fully integrated into any campaign setting.

Exactly. The Vashar and the Jerren were just examples of how one can create "vile" counterparts to PHB races. Although, Dragon Magazine once featured a PrC for the Jerren around the time BoVD was released.
