WHat happens when you get swallowed by a creature and the creature dies?

So it happend in my campaign today that a creature, the dust digger from Tome of Horrors, swallowed a creature whole, but was killed by the other PCs during the next round. According to the monster description, the character takes damage (2d8 IIRC) from the mosnters digestion and an addtional 6 pts from the acid damage.

Should the character take any damage while inside a dead creature, and how long would it take to get out?

I would say the PC could climb out the mouth, but it would probably take at least a round. I'm not familiar with the monster, but perhaps require other PCs to lend their strength to get the dead thing's mouth back open.

Otherwise I'd say the digestive juice is only potent for a limited period of time... maybe 1d4+1 minutes or something... and the PC could cut his way out normally.

You still need to cut yourself out (or climb out the mouth using the exact same rules as you push pass, rip and hack at the throat and stuff)

Also I'd say you still suffer damage whilst in the stomach

Well, you can rule that the creature vomits the character out on death; I get that from the Swallow Hole as being related to a grapple, and it can no longer maintain the grapple. However, that's a bit silly.

Remember, though, that muscles relax on death (like, say, sphincter muscles); I'd be quite comfortable saying the swallowed character wouldn't take constriction damage, but would still take any acid damage, though those should go away after a while...but as the creature's dead, they can easily be cut out or cut themselves out.

Crawling out would be a pain in the rear, since you'd have to try and crawl through a tight space through its mouth. You'd probably need to make an Escape Artist check to wiggle out. They shouldn't be too hard...DC 20 would be about right (so anybody could take 20).
