This is something from a guy who writes a "story hour" on Monte's Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil boards. Here's his profile link: http://p222.ezboard.com/bokayyourturn.showUserPublicProfile?gid=knoweremorse HP Below Zero Upon reaching zero or negative hit-points a character is not automatically rendered unconscious, they enter a state called Death's Door. Characters who reach zero or below become exhausted (-6 dexterity, -6 strength,) In the Death’s Door state, a character is impaired in both his ability to move and act, being limited to a single move action or a single standard action (not both). A character dies when they reach -10 hit points. On the initial hit when a character is put into Death's Door, and any hit on the character while in that state, that person must make a DC 15 Fortitude check or fall down. If a character moves they can take a 5’ step or move at ½ speed and they cannot take another action. If a player takes a standard action, they cannot move other than a 5’ step. Characters go unconscious when they reach -10 HP, and are dead when they reach below their constitution score. Characters cannot go lower than their constitution score and die when reaching that point. A character in Death’s Door can be stabilized, but any movement other than a 5' step, or casting spells with a somantic requirement ends the stabilization and the -1 hp/round penalty is once again implied. Using a weapon or anything that could be viewed as strenuous will also end the stabalization. (Grabbing a potion and drinking it would not be considered strenuous, nor is reading a scroll or using a wand). Characters attempting to cast a spell in this state must make a concentration check DC 15 + spell level or be unable to complete the spell. (Spells not completed in this way are not lost, just unable to be concentrated on enough to be initiated/started). Note: Characters in this critical state do not threaten any squares, (hence they do not get any AoO's, nor provide any form of flanking). The feat Die Hard, normally allows characters to go until negative 10 with the above restrictions. With the house rule, Die Hard now allows a character to go to -9 HP without entering the Death's Door state. Upon reaching -10, the character is dead.
