[QUOTE="zarionofarabel, post: 9863612, member: 7026405"] No no, you misunderstand. They get five seconds to make a decision. It takes longer than that to describe what's happening and rolling the dice and narrating results and all that, though I do prioritize making combat flow quickly. Mostly because I want it to feel more like a fast hectic cinematic movie experience, instead of a chess match. Like I said, most of the games I like to run have pretty simple combat engines, with limited choices, that often compress a lot of the action the way many social conflict systems compress an entire complex negotiation conversation into a roll or three. Plus, that is amongst players that are familiar with the system, how I run games, and TTRPG play in general. Newer players or veterans new to my table do get some leeway, cause I do follow the "don't be a dingus" rule. All in all though, it usually doesn't take long for new players to figure out the gist and make decisions quickly. It's a side effect of being only a couple years away from "muh 40 years" in that I have little patience nowadays for combat that takes the majority of a session or is a major aspect of a game. There are way more interesting stories and conflicts outside of combat, and I prefer to spend my time thinking about and narrating that kind of stuff, than chucking dice for two hours to resolve a situation that lasts for 60 seconds of in game time.
