Quick Thinking This was in a Shadowrun game about 7 or 8 years ago. We were tasked with breaking into a well guarded casino outside of Seattle. We couldn't use the tried and true method of blowing stuff up. I can't remember the specifics of the plan now, but it involved my character seducing a Paris Hilton style heiress, then getting invited to a "weekend in the country". After getting in, I disguised myself like one of the support staff, then sweet-talked past a guard to get into the basement. All the while, I'm rolling 6's like they're going out of style. I'm beating some insane target numbers. I get into the basement where I see "The Vault" for the casino. My job is to simply get into the basement, Damage a security server, crash the building long enough for our decker to do something or other, then get out to safety. I manage to crash the building but then I see the main power panel for the building. I come up with a plan. I disable the power for the whole building. The GM looks up and says. "Ok smartguy, you just took out power to the elevator you needed to escape." The other players look at my like I'm some idiot. I look up, and in the single coolest moment of my gaming career I say "I'm going out through the vault" I get out of the area I'm in, walking calmly towards the guarded vault area. I've got a stolen ID card, some power tools around my belt and that's it. I walk up to the Orc guard, telling him I need to get into the vault to fix the power. He asks for my ID card, I give it to him, but there's no way it's going to get past his hand held card reader. Without blinking I bluff the guard saying that his battery powered-reader won't work because the power's out. I'm getting nothing but "You're screwed" from the other players. The Orc guard is reasonably intelligent, gets 3 dice to check my bluff. I manage to boost the orc's target number into the teens. I have a pretty decent chance to get in, he rolls nothing but 1's. Catastrophic failure. Not only does the Orc guard allow my access to the vault, I get him to help open the door and close it behind me. I'm in a vault staffed with unarmed casino workers. I pull an electronic thingamajig off of my belt, explain that I have a bomb, and to put the credsticks into the bag. They comply, I've got a satchel full of credsticks, I'm locked in a vault 50' underground and there's an armed Orc on the other side of the door. The GM and the players are still wondering what the hell I'm doing. The GM is saying "Now what?" I ask him how the credsticks get from the vault to the casino floor and vice versa. He says, well there's a dumbwaiter..." He looks up at me, the players around the table gasp (seriously), then he says "Oh my god, you rock" I open up the mini elevator, manage to climb inside somehow getting into the shaft, climb up and out onto the casino floor. It's mostly dark, with a couple of emergency flood lights. Absolute chaos. I duck behind some cabinets, take off my jumpsuit. I look fantastic in my tuxedo, stuffing the jumpsuit into the bag, I calmly walk out the front door of the casino, where I find my heiress, hop into my Jaguar, and tool off into the Salish night. The take was something like 32 million nuyen. It was a wonderful night.
