D&D 3E/3.5 What is the definition of "Damage Roll" in 3.5e?

When a rule, say, Knowledge Devotion feat, says "damage roll" (not "weapon damage roll"), what kind of rolls are included?

Does that include rolls for determining damages of spell, spell-like abilities, super natural abilities and such?

As worded, I think it would apply any time you roll a die or dice to inflict damage on something.

My own personal interpretation would be that it applies to any roll to inflict damage made after a successful attack roll to hit. So it wouldn't apply to a fireball, but it would apply to a scorching ray.

While I agree that it may be a personal interpretation thing, I'd allow it to apply to a fireball also. Anytime you hit something and then roll those dice to figure out how much it hurt!
DM call though, that's what matters.
