Message: <blockquote data-quote="Balrog" data-source="post: 594577" data-attributes="member: 3543">I just looked in my first DnD box set (1980 Erol Otus cover, pinkish looking box - did it used to be red?)  I was surprised to see my original B3 Palace of the Silver Princess with my own juvenile notes and scribbles inside.  Also lurking in that box were several of my oldest characters:  an Elf, a Cleric, a Dwarf, and a Fighter.  Looking back at the four of them sparked a memory and made me wonder about anybody elses early gaming experiences.  Did anybody else have really small gaming groups?  Like just 2 or 3 people, with one DMing and the other 2 playing like 2 or 3 characters each?  Ah, the good old days.  It seems pretty silly now, but those were simpler times.  The earliest items of my own creation (other than characters anyway), i found some horrible maps of a world I was working on.  The names on the map are all horrible Tolkien ripoffs.  Geez, I suck.  I guess that Elven language glossary in the back of Silmarrion really came in handy?! LOL  Lo and behold , but in the same old box I just found something I thought I had lost long ago.....4 sets of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures by Grenadier, circa 1980. Hirelings, Thieves, Halflings, and Fighting Men Sets.   If painting your first miniatures yourself counts as an early gaming creation, then this is it for me.  Nothing else typifies the spirit of those times for me than staring at these relics.  Horribly-painted relics I might add, in retrospect and 20+ years later.  But nothing can compare to the fun and wonder of painting those miniatures, so long ago.  Just the faint odor of them brings back fond memories.  I look at them as a 31 year old and I see slop-n-go 25 mm figures, but in my mind's eye the 11 year old in my memory sees gleaming, priceless relics from a time of innocence and wonder.  <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f60e.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":cool:" title="Cool    :cool:"  data-smilie="6"data-shortname=":cool:" /> (In my mind's eye, 11 year old adolescent me kicks 31 year old adult me in the a$$ for letting go of other relics from that era, like Dragon Magazine collection from issues 60 to 120, a nice 5 year stretch when Dragon was the best ever, IMHO.   Oh well, at least it is still on CDRom!! <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f600.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":D" title="Big grin    :D"  data-smilie="8"data-shortname=":D" /> )</blockquote>
