oh dear... Goodness me, I just answered the points brought up by Meepo in as clear of a fashion as I know how & look what I started... Ren, I'm sure you love the Realms & that's just peachy, but the critiques I've listed are completely valid. As for that first "shot across the bow" there's nothing at all wrong with my imagination (check out my profile if you wish). I just don't like the FR that's all. Chill. Last I checked the Greyhawk setting is the official setting of 3e. And yes I do think letting a PC start off with a Masterwork Long sword or a scroll w/ 2 webs on it (for Waterdhavians or however those folk from Waterdeep are called) is quite a bit ahead of the standard PHB/Greyhawk 1st level character both in terms of survivability and starting wealth. I did not say that it throws off "the entire fabric of reality," but clearly it is indicative of a VERY magical world where potions & scrolls are everywhere. Thus, the Forgotten Realms has an above-average magical level. That was my point in the first place, nothing more. There's nothing 'wrong' with it. I just don't like it & thus I (and many others as you may have noticed) voted against FR. And no, the designers do not see FRCS as the "way D&D is." Again I believe that would be Greyhawk. Finally, there is nothing wrong with having a good deal of choice for starting PC races, but we've already got quite a few in the PHB. With all the Saurials, Drow, Half-Dragons, Planetouched, etc., the FR just seems a bit OTT to me. But of course I like settings to be vaguely referential to the fantasy novels I read and with the exception of the FR dreck, you just don't see that many sentient races in Lieber, Tolkien, Martin, Moorcock, Jordan, Howard, etc. Just an opinion... Oh and by the way, I believe Humans (albeit with vast differences in cultures) are the only PC race on Earth :D Now enough Forgotten Realms chain pulling ;) Have Fun!
