There's nothing 'wrong' with it.  I just don't like it & thus I (and many others as you may have noticed) voted against FR.And no, the designers do not see FRCS as the "way D&D is."  Again I believe that would be Greyhawk.  Finally, there is nothing wrong with having a good deal of choice for starting PC races, but we've already got quite a few in the PHB.  With all the Saurials, Drow, Half-Dragons, Planetouched, etc., the FR just seems a bit OTT to me.  But of course I like settings to be vaguely referential to the fantasy novels I read and with the exception of the FR dreck, you just don't see that many sentient races in Lieber, Tolkien, Martin, Moorcock, Jordan, Howard, etc.  Just an opinion...Oh and by the way, I believe Humans (albeit with vast differences in cultures) are the only PC race on Earth <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f600.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":D" title="Big grin    :D"  data-smilie="8"data-shortname=":D" />  Now enough Forgotten Realms chain pulling <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f609.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=";)" title="Wink    ;)"  data-smilie="2"data-shortname=";)" />Have Fun!</blockquote>
