The game went mine then his then my way, we're gambling not just money but meals (we were escorting a large caravan at the time and the caravan's cook could only serve seconds to the first comers and we ended up playing for the right to seconds <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":-)" title="Smile :-)" data-smilie="1"data-shortname=":-)" /> ).</span></span></p><p></p><p><span style="font-size: 12px"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">I decided to play one more round and rolled a perfect 5 one's (we were playing poker with dice) ... the cheers around the table were quit loud, we don't actually roll a lot during a session (we're as a group more into role-playing, see next bit) so whenever this kind of thing comes up, it kinda is extra exciting as we're not really used to leave our fate to the dice</span></span></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-size: 12px"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">- some time ago in my birthright group where I run a Binsada native scout, me, another PC and an NPC warrior had to try and kill a bandit leader to try and stop a full scale assault on our village. I had to succeed in 2 called shots to down the guards, then my companions tried to infiltrate the camp to finger the leader for me. another placed shot to put an arrow in the leaders’ eye with a perfect one</span></span></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-size: 12px"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">- in the Greyhawk group I DM, the Paladin tried to chop through 3 goblins in one movement. I requested the following sequence of rolls to allow him this move: ATT(to hit A), STR, DEX (to get through A and reach B), ATT (hit B), STR, DEX (to get through B and reach C) and attack again ... the Paladin made the whole sequence</span></span></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-size: 12px"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">- this one I didn't witness myself, but the story has been repeatedly told by my WFRP GM and confirmed by others who were there: somewhere along the road running the enemy within campaign, the party has to fight a vampire. The vampire wreaks havoc and the party soon realizes it might be close to impossible to kill the vampire and so running might be an option. One of the players turns to the GM and asks: I want to kill the vamp with one perfect called shot. Is this possible and what would I have to roll. The GM figures out that it would be possible if a perfect critical hit would be rolled (which meant 1-5 on D%) and you consequently roll enough damage. now damage in WFRP is D6 + the characters strength bonus. Anytime you roll a six, you add six to the total and reroll. The vamp could be killed by dealing 80 something damage, which meant rolling about a dozen sixes. The player took her dice, and actually rolled the dozen sixes! Those dice were then never used again</span></span></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-size: 12px"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">Then there are the great ROLEplaying moments:</span></span></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-size: 12px"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">- my first character, a wood elf rogue/wizard, together with his twin-sister (another player in the group) are the sole survivors when their clan gets slaughtered by the Zhentarim. At some point down the road we're chased by a hunting party who've released some war hounds after us. My sister gets torn to bits by the hounds and the scene that followed was quit intense. I tend to my sister, barking almost like a rabid dog at any "foul human" who tries to lay hands on her (even the PC who offered his blanket to cover her). The DM then conjured up a wood elf departing in a stone circle that was near.... I almost had to step outside, fighting of tears... The hair in my neck still rises when I think about that scene.</span></span></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-size: 12px"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">- another very emotional scene happened in the WFRP -Enemy within I played in. I ran a judicial champion who became the leader of the Knights Templar of the Fiery heart (order dedicated to Sigmar). I ended up being the chosen of Sigmar, carrying Sigmar's blade and hammer, and after playing through 2 of the 4 books (I joined half-way to replace the player running this character), when I finally on the battle field handed over Sigmar's weapons to the true Knight Eternal, .... shivers down my spine</span></span></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-size: 12px"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">- While playing a barbarian ranger (again ADnD), some (rookie) player in the group was responsible for the death of one of the other characters. I was really angry as the player who lost his character was a long time player like me ... The DM let us play through and (fully in game and in character) my barbarian makes the rookie player understand the mistake that cost our fellow's life and forced him in the name of Odin (we were playing under the Norse pantheon) to take the killed characters name and to honor our fallen comrade in every deed from this day hence... It was only when I had finished my "performance" I realized the whole room was stunned into silence, everybody staring at me open mouthed... </span></span></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-size: 12px"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">There are so many more moments that send shivers down my spine, some of them already forgotten, but these kinds of moments are a big reason to be playing this game...</span></span></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-size: 12px"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'">Onwards to more inspired dice rolling and role-playing ...</span></span></p></blockquote><p></p>
