In my younger days, convention going wasn't my thing. Perhaps a few bad experiences taught me not to like conventions.

But my first GenCon was a great bash, where I got to meet (and game with) people I had only met virtually, try some new games, and wandering through the exhibition hall makes me feel like a kid in a toy store again...

But still, there are people out there that I have yet to meet I would like to, and I'm already told are not going.

So, if you aren't going, what are your reasons?

Most years? Cash. For 7 out of 10 people here, it may well be the cashflow.

This year, it's because I'm taking my wife somewhere she wants to go, instead of me. :)

It's during football season. As a high school football coach, they frown on me taking time off to go to a gaming convention. I did go a couple of years ago when it was in July.

My participation on this board notwithstanding, I'm a guy who enjoys playing RPG's with my friends on occassion as a relaxing low impact hobby, not a lifestyle. GenCon and similar events seems to be geared towards those with a more diehard interest in gaming as part of their lives.

Well, it is not cash for me, I try to go every other year, rotating my vaction to another activities and while this year I have not planned anything I was thinking about having eye surgery but have been chickening out.

"It gets the ladies where they want to go every time." - Jack Black as Frodo :)

I would love to go but my wife likes to game too and we have a 3 year old, so it would be hard to have us both game and look after a 3 year old. When he's older, we'll go.

I haven't come up with a good enough reason to go. After several years with many, many conventions I'm just not quite ready to go to another convention. It can get very tiring and conventions take a lot of time away from working.
