what kind of accessory books do you like?

hi,
now that print on demand has made self-publishing an affordable option for me, i want to start making role-playing accessory books that are art focused. my initial thoughts are to create books of NPCs, (for example, 'dragonmaidens', or 'elves of crescent ilse', or something like that), which would be mostly full-color painted portraits with descriptions and game stats.. then i thought books that detail a location (a specific town or city, or region) complete with maps and possible adventures, npcs, and such, might be cool too.

so my question is, would these types of books be interesting at all to anyone? are there other types of game accesories you'd rather see? i'm an artist, so my focus would be making a cool-looking book full of cool art, but obviously the content should be useful as well.

any ideas or feedback will be rewarded with love and hugging and songs..
or i'll say thanks or something.

maybe a cookie?

Umm... I think that it's a good idea, as long as you stay original. There are soooo many products along the lines of what you are suggesting. Make sure that the NPCs you make haven't been done anywhere else. Also, make sure you have value for money. Big publishers can get away with overpricing, because people know they're gonna get a good product, but you need to make sure that people know that they're getting what they're paying for, otherwise they won't buy your product.

Adventures. Modules. Sourcebooks that are more adventure than setting material. Whatever you call them. That's what I want to buy. Good artwork is a real bonus since I scan the foes and make my own 3D counters with the images. Counter Collection Digital has been a great investment in that regard. I don't know if you can compete with it, but even an adventure with counters or digital images is very handy. If you want to have a peek at a free one that fits this mold, look for My Big Fat Centaur Wedding by Sean K. Reynolds Games.

books of locations are always good especially if they ar eeasy to place almost anywhere. adventure hooks are a must since they make them that much easier for the DM to use.

ahh perfect! thanks so much guys, this is exactly what i was looking for!

i was originally thinking these things would look like nice art books, or coffe table books, yet they would be filled with usable content. but i really like your suggestion of including scannable, printable monster tokens and such, scourger. i would also make sure to include maps to scale to be used with miniatures.

thanks again guys.
cookies for all of you!

I agree with the others in that locations are the most useful. My favorites are the Foul Locale series from Mystic Eye.

Foul Locales are my favorites too. Go figure. ;) But in seriousness, I find locales useful because they are the easiest to rip apart. With this type of supplement you get easily detachable maps, NPCs, and adventure hooks.

Lifestyles of the Dark & Despoiled

This thread should really be in general...

OK, this might sound odd, but I'd buy a book of extraplanar domicles of powerful beings. Contrary to popular belief, they don't live at the bottom of huge dungeon complexes on the prime.

Seen MTV Cribs?

Powerful fiends living large!

Who guards the place, keeps the place running, and such? Funky architecture, gory art, torture kitchens, etc...

For example, lets look at Demogorgon. What would his fortresses on the brine flats ( Abysm and Ungorth Reddick ) be like? I imagine Abysm as mountain complex rising from the sea, with the lower levels filled with salt water, allowing Demogorgon to fufill the cravings of his amphibious nature, and cultivate appropriate followers. A huge section is only entered by Demogorgon and a few trusted lieutenants or servants. Perhaps different living quarters for each faced of his dual personalities ( Aameul / Hethradiah ).

OK, now Demogorgon won't work for you due to IP restrictions, but you could come up with your own names, and I can use it for whatever I please. Domains of good/nuetral/other forces would be cool too. They don't even NEED to be extraplanar, I guess. That would just be cool.

Yo, D&D Cribs!
