Basically, once the new year begins I am going to start running a one-player (plus the occassional guest star) 3.5 campaign, but I am uncertain as to what level the character should be. Here's the idea as it sits in my head:
Open on a great battle. The player does not geta character sheet, justa notecard with basic combat infor (not even broken down). Hordes of horribles beasties are flooding the field and the PC is one of a handful of shining knights (the player likes characters that are both powerfula nd noble). The fight goes on until the PC is the last man standing. When it reaches that point, the "Boss" enters: a Blackguard on a black dragon. The PC ends up dead.
But...
the PC later wakes under the care of a group of healers who found him "near death" on the field of battle. he has lost his memory. Clues point to him being someone important, and he has only the vaguest memroies of the battle itself. In his heart, he knows that he must rebuild the knights that he was fighting with, to defeat this evil that is laying waste to the land.
At that point, I hand him a character sheet, mostly blank, that gets filled in while he adventures, regaining his memory and "self" over time. There are other secrets and twists that I may or may not know at this point, but that is the gist: a single character quest across the world to build an army of paladins and destroy the evil.
So, at the start of this, what level should the PC be?
