Sorry to make this more complicated than it has to be- if you want a straight answer- lvl 9 sounds about right. That is when you get recognised by the people. But there is acquired title and self proclaimed title. When rolling out your character, you decide on a race and class. At level 1-3, after your first battle- usually the emotions and adrenaline run so great that once you have slain your first monster, you grant yourself a self- proclaimed title where the rest of your party either tease you or praise you for. I had a player that killed a baby dragon in the sunless citadel and claimed the title "DRagon Killer"- and the title was befitting because in the Forge of Fury, he was the one that landed the final blow to kill the black dragon. He was a ranger- so at level 5, took dragon as favored enemy. He traded in his ranger for a sorcerer and by level 12, he killed two more dragons (phantasmal killer- and a couple lucky rolls for him- unlucky rolls for dragon- and a color spray made on go insane. He retained that title. Other than him, i was the only oother person to kill a dragon (cleric). Then there are aquired titles- where you do what you do- and others, seeing a dominant trait or characteristic about you- give you a name: Krusk- the brutish, Gandalf the wise, Lida the nimble... and so on. Then there is the ultimate aquired title- where you are dubbed and recognised as "Sir Knight" and granted a royal title- one that only be stripped by royalty- or a ruling party... The funnest one to have is a self-proclaimed title- it shows how you view yourself. And it is fun for group dynamics and chemistry. Dubed titles are good for incentive. keeps players motivated beyond "do this and I will give you money..."
