Lets say you're a lich, one of an undead council ruling a city in which the mortals enjoyed your 'protection' while serving your needs. Lets say you see the need for an elite guard, warriors (etc) immune to the effects of aging & unswervingly loyal to your rule. Creatures that retain something of their mortal psyche & abilities. Mindless minions are no good because they have no initiative & thus need constant command & attention. Creatures weakened by light are no good because, well, daylight is around half the time. What sort of creatures do you create/train to protect you interests & enforce your will over the centuries? I have an idea involving such a city behind the scenes of the campaign, & an encounter involving the PCs crossing paths with a liche on a mission for the council, with a handful of elite guards accompanying to ensure he isn't hindered. Only I'm unsure what creatures would make suitable guards. Any suggestions? [Edited spelling]
