What Monte's d20 Best of Should Have...

Let's not turn this into a fanboy or against arguement.

I'm thinking that if Monte wants to turn his book into something other than a compilation, that after he picks the best of, he should provide some information about the companies.

For example, if he picks the Scion stuff from the Game Mechanics, good stuff already in Unearthed Arcana and Arms & Armor 3.5, that he should have a bio of the Game Mechanics, an interview with the guys who came out with it, and something of his own, perhaps either a compare and contrast of his stuff from the Nexus with it's advancing intelligent swords, or a Scion item, to show how others can use it. I'm also hoping that we'll have a little sidebar as to why the item was selected in the first place.

That would generate interest in the original product as well as showing others who already have most of the material into something new.

Also a small bio of the actual author as well - thus generating interest in other things that the author has worked on.

While it would be 'nice' (for the other publishers) if that was done, i would rather not buy a book where half the stuff is about game companies, instead of good rpg rules. Monte ain't a foundation for promoting other game companies. If you want to know where the stuff came from, check the section 15, just like every other OGL product. What i do want to know is why these are good rpg rules and why they are in this compilation...

Monte is working on a best of 2004 in the vein of Spectrum or other anthologies that collect the best of.

As far as not wanting a lot of bio or other information... I can feel your pain to a point. However, one thing that's been said is that this will help drive sales of older products.

Which is nonsense.

People don't go out and buy Unearthed Arcana and then buy Artifacts of the Ages. They don't buy Feats from AEG and check the section 15.

Now I'm not saying that Monte has to do this or anything but if to help the publishers as well as being a d20 product...

Besides, if it includes a bio and other details of the author whose done the best work of 2004, doesn't it warrant that there might be some older stuff worth picking up?

I don't think I argued against that? Checks post... nope. I'm saying that in addition to what Monte thinks is the best, how about some 'director's commenatry' if you will will 'links' to the 'cast' so that people who enjoy and agree with Monte's pick can follow up with other purchases.

Is that a better explanation?
