Catfolk, at +1 LA, give +4 Dex and +2 Cha, making them absolutely dazzling as wilders and wilders, and pretty good at essentially anything else. Tieflings, also at +1 LA, give +2 Dex/Int, -2 Cha, some resistances, and the outsider type. They are nice as rogues, wizards, and arcane tricksters, decent as a feat-based finesse or archery character. Sadly, as warlocks, you have to avoid invocations that allow saves, although they are decent enough in that capacity. They are surprisingly lame as clerics, sorcerers, blackguards, and bards. I think for 3.0/3.5, they should have lost the Cha penalty, and maybe even gotten a bonus, since it does so many different things now. Aasimar, with +2 Wis/Cha, and some nice resistances, are good as paladins, clerics, sorcerers, druids, wilders, psychic warriors, and are the best favored soul around (thanks to multiple ability dependence, this is one case where a +1 LA race can likely outcast a standard race). They are pretty lame as Int based casters, rogues, barbarians, and so forth. As fighters, they are indifferent... slightly weaker overall, but their resistances aren't bad, and you can dump both Wis and Cha without really feeling it. At low levels, they feel it the most, but benefit from the outsider type. Gnolls and lizard folk are both actually really good for their LA as beaters, especially once you add two or more class levels. They could also work as second string clerics, particularly if you concentrate on buffs. Minotaur is nice. Ogre really is not. Half-troll humans or half-orcs work out pretty good, provided you have at least three hit dice (high LA, but yes, still worth it).
