[QUOTE="GreenTengu, post: 7173450, member: 6777454"] I only think it makes sense to disallow the things based on the particular setting of the particular game at the time. You are only going to have a handful of players at any given time, so when any of them proposes an idea you didn't expect you just have to go through the check list... 1) Is there anything about the size, shape or movement of this race that would screw up the general concept for the adventure? (i.e. giants, flyers or mermaids may well be disqualified) 2) If this is something I hadn't really planned to be a part of my world, is there really no possible way I can find a way to justify the inclusion of at least one existing without derailing the whole world image? 3) Is there something fundamental about the way this particular race is meant to be portrayed that cannot be negotiated with or worked around that will necessarily cause disruption? 4) Is this race a primary antagonist truly in such a way that, presuming humans are the primary race of the world and humans will integrate and breed with just about anything vaguely human if given the chance, there could not possibly be even a small handful of exceptions who would be willing to fight their own, whether because of injustice done to them or a desire to see a more equitable outcome than the leaders of their people are aiming for? Unless one of those four things is an absolute breaking issue, it is simply close-minded and selfish to cut players off. Even if because of these four things it appears that the player's choice would not work, one should at least find a way in which the player can play something that at least includes some of the core element of what it is that appealed to them about the race to begin with.
