What Should I Spend My Money On?

Andrew D. Gable

First Post
Well, I have copious amounts of Christmas money and want to pick up some RPG books and a few movies with it. I've already got the movies picked out, but what do y'all suggest for books? So far, I have the Iron Kingdoms Character Guide and Primer (if you should buy both--is one just an update and expansion of the other, or are they two independent supplements?) since I have no Iron Kingdoms stuff outside of the Monsternomicon, and the world does look to my liking. I also want to pick up Libris Mortis and maybe the Draconomicon, neither of which have found their way into my grubby paws yet, and Grim Tales is on my wish list at the EN Store.

there is just so much stuff out there that it really depends on what you want in the books. For instance while Grimm Tales is very good, it is also different enough that one really uses it over tyhe PHB, and not so much together. The two WotC books are good, but if one doesn't feature Dragons and lots of different undead, they also can see little use.

For books, I suggest Omega World from Dungeon (polyhedron) #94; Judge Dredd d20 core plus adventures; Star Wars Revised core RPG; and Mesopotamia.

I'm looking forward to Slavelords of Cydonia, which would go with your Grim Tales (although I have little interest in GT)--so I'll recommend it also.

You don't need the primer, just the Character Guide. It's more or less a greater expansion of the Primer, which was done for 3.0 rules. As for what other books to buy, you're going to get a huge diversity of suggestions with this crowd. My suggestions are based on being able to be used in almost any campaign world or setting:

AEG
-World's Largest Dungeon

Bastion Press (most titles are on sale for $5.00 at the Bastion Press online store until Monday):
-Arms & Armor v3.5
-Torn Asunder: Critical Hits
-Pale Designs: A Poisoner's Handbook
-Spells & Magic
-Alchemy & Herbalists
-Faeries
-Airships
-Doom Striders

Citizen Games:
-Way of the Witch (you can usually find this at a substantial discount in stores but it is one of the best written of the Witch books)

Dark Quest Games:
-Dweomercraft: Familiars
-Lost Prehistorica

Fantasy Flight Games:
-Wildscape
-Dungeoncraft
-Cityworks
-Traps & Treachery (I and II)
-Portals & Planes

Green Ronin:
-Advanced Bestiary
-Psychic's Handbook
-Shaman's Handbook
-Noble's Handbook

Living Imagination:
-Agents of Faith
-Spellbound
-Streets of Silver

Malhavoc:
-Complete Book of Eldritch Might

MonkeyGod Enterprises:
-Frost & Fur

Mystic Eye Games:
-Any of the Foul Locales books
-The Pantheon and Pagan Faiths

Paradigm Concepts:
-Unveiled Masters: Guide to Mind Flayers
-Forged in Magic

Second World Simulations:
-Masters at Arms

Troll Lord Games:
-Book of Familiars

Wizards of the Coast (you've already said Draconomicon and Liber Mortis):
-Frostburn

This should give you plenty to choose from... ;)

Steve,

No S&SS/Scarred Lands love for me?! :p

Anyway a couple more books that should be on your list:

Beyond Countless Doorways
Book of Iron Might
Vampires and Liches
Creature Collection Revised
CC2

But of your list, Draconomicon is awesome for dragons. Liber Mortis...eh better than Secret College of Necromancy or Mongoose's exploration into Necromancy
(Really best necromancy stuff is in Hollowfaust IMHO.)

Monsternomicion is kind eh but if you are hardcore about IK it's for you.

Black Company CS.
Book of the Righteous
Edge of Infinity (had to toss in at least ONE Scarred Lands book. :p )

For adventures, you can't go wrong with any of the Dungeon Crawl Classics from Goodman Games. There Complete Guides aren't too shabby either (especially the one about to be released...see my sig! )

I'd also jump on that Bastion Press sale for some cheap goodies before the end of the weekend.
