It's an affliction that can affect any race and in many media gives a whole slew of abilities so to me it makes more sense to model vampirism as a class than a race. Mechanically it could have half of the progression of a warlock's spellcasting while having some martial goodies (weapon + armor proficiencies, an extra attack, etc.). Subclasses could include Charming with a focus on enchanting, Bestial with a focus on shapeshifting, and Sanguine with a focus on blood magic type effects. My more traditional pick would be a dedicated summoner where all the power is in the creatures you summon while the character them self is pretty lack luster.</blockquote>
