I'd like to see something like the 4E Warlord... KIDDING. An Invoker that matched the 4E concept - a spiritual 'Fist of the Gods' that does a lot of what a wizard might do, but does it with the power of faith rather than the arcane. This is not a healer or buffer - this is the Wrath of the Gods. He walks into a battlefield and strikes down Infidels. He hurls fire, lightning, curses and destruction in the name of Gods that put action above words. This is a mostly untapped archetype in D&D that really has a strong place to go. Shaman is an interesting idea, but I think it can just be a druid build - one that gets spirit animal abilities for their circle. Similarly, Warden should be a fighter build. In the name of tapping ideas with potential, a Mechanist would be an interesting area to explore. This would be a PC that ventures into the realm of Steampunk, with alchemical, mechanical, chemical, electric and steam based technology at their beck and call. Intelligence based, they build tools and use them. These tools require constant maintenance and resupplying to keep working (giving their creations durations and limited ability to reproduce), but they can do what spells do without the aid of magic and with a few interesting twists. Your flamethrower device requires weeks (something you completed when you gained a level) to build and hours to recharge (something you 'recharge' at a long rest) - but you could hand it to the fighter (buffing the fighter) and let them fire off the cones of fire. Your friends call it a potion, but you call the adrenaline shot you stab them with medicine. Masters of your craft are able to build automatons, create flying vehicles and even tear open holes in space. The concept can be the centerpiece of a more modern setting or just something that a small number of gnomes do...
