His name is John Stewart, and the comics version is pretty much nothing like the TV version. And let's be fair, NONE of the characters in the Justice League cartoon are interesting. Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Hawkwoman are all the same: bad ass warriors. Much as I love the cartoon, characterization is minimal. But a Green Lantern movie would be amazing. It has more potential than most single characters, and translates VERY well to the movies. His powers lend heavily to special effects, and really cool ones at that. It blends the super-hero genre with the sci-fi genre very well, and you can have anywhere from a high level of sci-fi content to almost zero (beyond the premise). His powers are almost unlike anything seen before in movies and super-hero movies, whereas we've seen people go through walls, smash through walls, and shoot lasers from their eyes a million times already. And the various ring bearers in the past mean they could pick just about any popular or up-and-coming actor to play the lead. The Green Lantern history isn't a problem. It's nowhere near as confusing or controversial as X-Men. Sure, they wouldn't be able to please every fan, but that's not necessary for a good movie. As long as it was a good movie, the rest wouldn't matter.
