What the heck is an otherkin?

After perusing that website, I am now offended for my Wiccan friends for them to have been put in the same sentence as these "special people".

I didn't realize that people who LARP and play too much "Changeling:The Dreaming" were their own species...

Doc

EDIT: I went back and did a more thorough read, and know realize that this is effectively a child molestation survival group dressed up in faerie wings and glitter. Still sad, just not quite as lame.

You edit is a fairly interesting thought I must say. I spent some time on the Otherkin Discussion Boards (as a human) and other than the belief they are not human Otherkin aren't any weirder than anyone else.

Oh and on the Changeling issue. Otherkin as a concept predate Changeling by many years. I new an Otherkin girl named Jennifer way back in 1987
And the walk in component, well thats a New Age concept. Another lady I new back in 1989 or so claimed to be a walk in, according to her the original inhabitent left and the new soul came in.
This lady wouldn't know an RPG if you smacked her with one. The Walk In concept is really ancient.

My personal opinion on the Otherkin is that they cover the same sanity spectrum as the rest of us.

Some are just people with an unorthodox religious belief Some are the abuse survivors taking refuge in Fantasy as Dr. Confundo suggests and some are just plain crazy. OH and some are posers.

As to the Glitter and Farie dust, well there are some of those out there but there are also some fairly scary "Dark" otherkin, Vampires, Dragons. Deomns (Cambions?) and more

To tell the truth I can't really criticize them, for all I know they might be right and claiming to be Otherkin is no odder than many other religious beliefs IMO.

*Looks up at the rest of the thread, then reminisces the time he spent in a mental hospital.*
