what to do about scrying?

as my character has just learned to scry (well, greater scrying actually...), i was wondering if there is any danger posed by scrying on people. they have a reasonable chance to know they are being watched, but is there anything they can do about it?

also, can you communicate therough the sensor?

sorry if this is a rules question...

What they can do about it?.. Well. If they start looking up in your direction and wave you can be pretty sure that the next time they do something they don't want there enemies to know about, they will have taken precausions like invisibility, nondetection, splitting up in many small teams, other illusions in general, maybe psionics (don't know about that one), etc.

Well Anti-Magic shell at least would block Scrying.

I had thought there was a specific spell to protect against scrying but oh well.

There are lots of spells that protect against scrying. One of the most effective ones is Detect Scrying; it lasts for 24 hours, works infallibly, and has a chance of identifying the identity and location of the person scrying you! Gotta love that.

It's not listed specifically, but I'd say any purely visual spells should work. Eyebite would be a great one. Any gaze attack. (See also Arcane Eye.)

EDIT - this was me, not KidCthulhu. Stupid log-in!

Um...lasy, busy, whatever. i had a look, but couldn't find any, in the PHB anyway...

i thought of purelyvisual, and also, purely sonic maybe?

The PHB specifically lists all the spells that work with the Scry spell. All the details are right there.

To be specific....

"The following spells can be cast through a scrying spell: comprehend languages, read magic, tongues, and darkvision. The following spells have a 5% chance per caster level of operating correctly: detect magic, detect chaos, detect evil, detect good, detect law, and message."

It took me less time to look it up on the SRD than it did to post here! :)

EDIT - whoops! I understand now; reach *back* through the sensor. Doh. I'd say all visual spells, the same sorts of things that can be used through a wall of force. We know petrification from a medusa works that way, so I'd guess eyebite would as well.
