Pass the buck, I say. Why should you have to make the tough call? He's the player give him the dilemma. Have the orcs viciously torture and interrogate him. If he holds out and protects his friends and gives up nothing, give him the noble death he deserves, and the remaining party a commensurate advantage on their next encounter with the enemy. If he successfully lies to his captors who've reduced him to a quivering mass of 1/10 his hp, and permanently cost him a few points of dex and or str and or cha, then the enemy may stumble into a trap, or give the party fortuitous advantages on the next two encounters. The druid of course receives a noble death. If he makes vague threats of revenge and how his comrades will avenge or rescue him, he gets 1/10 of his hp, and permanent ability reductions as above (powerful restorative magics might eventually alleviate this burden), and to be bait, for a trap. The rest of the party has to choose between their well being and that of their foolhardy friend, full well knowing they must be expected, and the enemy will be well prepared. If he cravenly breaks, to protect his precious ability scores, well, the cruelest fate of all awaits him. He shall be the traitor who mourns his fallen friends throughout his surely short life as slave labor. This would be a really bad end, he'd have to watch as the bad guys executed his friends, they'd die defenseless on their knees, and he'd live on knowing he made it all happen. And as for how to keep the druid from running away and out of trouble, while the forces of darkness work their evil, they'd crucify him. Let's see a druid wildshape outta that! (Ya know I really hate to think that the DM, of my druid, might be reading this thread....) See, you don't have to make the hard choices :) part of the fun of being the DM is making the players agonize over all the decisions. Part of playing the hero is a willingness to accept glory postumously.
