Whatever happened to Carl Sargent?

Carl Sargent was one of the best writers of the 2nd ed. era, IMO, having produced or been a part of at least five books that I know of and yet he seems to have dropped of the face of the planet.

I know he had done some Earthdawn stuff but until recently I thought he had just gone into seclusion and decided not to write anymore. That was until I heard a rumour that after finishing the 'Ivid the Undying' manuscript, he was in an accident that left him crippled.

After searching the net for an hour all I could find was references to his writing credits and some teacher in America with the same name.

Whatever happened to Carl Sargent?

I hope not but that certainly would explain his absence and the lack of a personal website. Just out of curiosity, do you remember where you heared that?

Nothing specific, just recalling some past threads where people seemed to speak of him as if he were dead. I'm probably wrong, so don't go sending flowers yet or anything.

I don't think he passed away, but he did drop out of the game industry a good five years ago. As I understand it, Carl was hired to work at FASA full time as one of their RPG developers. This entailed a move from the UK to Chicago. Though it was all set up (plane tickets, arrival date, etc.), he never showed up. FASA got concerned and tried to track him down, but they never heard from him again. Apparently (and this is where we get into the hearsay part of this story), Carl had some kind of "what am I doing with my life" freakout, and moved to north of England to get away from it all. That's the last I've heard about him.

It's a real shame, as Carl was a talented designer.
