Whatever happened to Ken Hite?

They are under new ownership that seems to have different priorities than the old ownership, is my guess.

It could just be that the new person doesn't know to check for a new column. It might just have been a thing the old person checked regularly, and the new person doesn't know. After all, much of their news is user (or publisher) submitted.

I can't say I've followed his column regularly, but he's a great guy. I first became familiar with his work back when I was trying to wrap my brain around Chaosium's Nephilim. I'd just read Major Arcana by Kenneth Hite and I remember finding it one of the most intriguing books for the game. My only disappointment was the section on the most mysterious beings in the setting: the Selenim. A very brief, very vague few paragraphs were given followed by a statement that an entire book would be released detailing the Selenim in full.

Why was this a problem? Because that book was never written (at least, never in English). Nephilim was no longer being supported and the Selenim were just this big void in the overall scheme of things. So, I decided I'd email Mr. Hite and ask him if there was anything he could tell me about these mysterious dark beings. Not only did he reply, but he sent me several pages of information on the Selenim and let me know that if I had any further questions that he would be happy to help.

While that might seem like a small thing to some, it certainly wasn't to me. It was the first time I'd communicated with someone on the creative end of the RPG world and I really couldn't have asked for a better experience. It was when I finally realized that one of the things that makes gaming so different from any other hobby is the close relationship between those who create and those who play.

Soooo...I'm obviously quite happy to hear Ken Hite hasn't been kidnapped by any secret societies or driven mad by the Old Ones. We need more like him!

Both Charles and Erik came up to me at Origins and mentioned this thread, so maybe I'd better assure people that I'm still here, and no loopier than usual.

More specifically:

* My most recent "Out of the Box" column posted some time in April, and I don't know why the post-F+W buyout columns aren't available from the column page.

* Adventures Into Darkness hit some art snags, but at Origins we've worked out what will hopefully be the last major speed bump, although I'm chary of giving specific predictions -- hopefully Real Soon Now, though.

* If I don't deliver a playtestable alpha of Trail of Cthulhu (the GUMSHOE adaptation) to Pelgrane this week, Simon will have me killed by his operatives, so yes, 'busy' covers it. But yes, Alnag, it will be cool.

* For those who enjoyed my "Tour de Lovecraft," there will be a compiled (and somewhat less loopy) edition available in PDF and in POD, also Real Soon Now, with a cover graphic that is almost too brilliant for words. Even for my words.

* And thanks very much for the nice words, Ivocaliban.

* Now back to periscope depth...
