Well, that's what various publishers have done in the past. Paizo is probably the best known. They published all sorts of thing in Dungeon and Dragon that weren't OGL because they had a license to do so from WotC. Now, I don't know, because I've obviously never seen the license, but, I'm pretty sure that that license stated that Paizo wasn't allowed to publish OGC in Dungeon or Dragon. After all, all the adventures in Dungeon from the 3e days are 100% closed content. They are not open content at all. There is nary an OGL to be seen in any Dungeon or Dragon magazines (outside of a couple of exceptions). So, I could totally see something like D&D Beyond being opened up to 3rd party creators but, not under the OGL. Which is how you would prevent confusion for what counts as OGC or not. If everything (outside of the SRD of course) on the D&D Beyond platform is closed content, then they can continue to link to that content but have it unavailable unless you own that book. Just like it is now. If you don't own the Monster Manual from D&D Beyond, you cannot view non-srd monsters. If OGC were allowed on the D&D Beyond (the acronyms are getting a bit thick here) then anything that was actually OGC would have to be freely available through D&D Beyond, I think. ((I could be wrong here)) /edit to add Sorry, no, it wouldn't have to be freely available, but, it could be made freely available simply because it's OGC.
