I found it a failed attempt to capture the feeling of the Warcraft computer game into an RPG. The core book did very little to capture the Warcraft universe, and instead spent a lot of time hammering it into D&D (ie "here's how you can play D&D in Warcraft", rather than "here's what Warcraft can bring to the D&D game system"). I've bought all 3 currently available books for Warcraft, and am basis my opinions across all 3 of these books (Core Rulebook, Manual of Monsters and Alliance & Horde Compendium). The books are over priced, full of padding and contain very little useful info (certainly in terms of game mechanics, there is a lot of fluff - some people will like that, but as I said above, I didn't find the fluff pulling me into the Warcraft world - I think they did a poor job of bring Azeroth to life). The books are also filled with "see book XXX for more information" - so much stuff you'd expect in core rule books are simply reserved for other purchases (and as it turns out, they didn't always appear in the later books... very annoying) The current websupport is virtually non-existant (at least officially, there are some good folks maintaining unofficial errata etc). Now, having said that, the new product line manager has stated several times on the Warcraft forums that some of the existing products suffered for various reasons, and is promising that the next releases will be amongst the best D20 products of the year. I'm taking that with a pinch (or pint :)) of salt - but again, he was very honest in his response on the boards and promised web previews of the new material - so I'm prepared to base my future purchases on the quality perceived from the web previews. I would like too see Warcraft the RPG be a great product range - but it has a long way to go to achieve that. My best advice would be to find it in an local game store and have a read through them to see if they are for you - unfortunately I have no FLGS, and had to order my books in mailorder - something which I regret, because I think my money would have been better spent on other books... If you've played the RTS, you might find yourself better off creating the setting yourself - perhaps with the help of the excellent Fields of Blood to model the strategic campaign layers. Hope this helps...
