It stopped 2/3 of an orc skirmish against a small village we were defending. I did not really know what to do against all those orcs that were running against our group so I just tried entangle. Here is a pic I made for our campaign log back then, we were around level 4-5 at that time in a 2e game:<img src="http://home.tiscali.ch/tschneider/pics/Herdford.jpg" alt="" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-draggable " data-size="" style="" />The 7 orcs attacking from the right side (6 normal orcs and a leader) were stopped dead with entangle the second round of the fight. I (dwarven cleric) then yelled over to Yasira (our thief/magic user) to cast grease on the bridge to somehow slow down the 7 orcs on coming from the other side of the river. Additionally I cast my last entangle the next round just at the end of the bridge to hold off those that would save against the grease spell. I then used my remaining spell slots for heat metal and heal light wounds. with the 12+ orcs stopped in their advance movement Arangar the fighter moved away from the right front and tried to slip through the woods to make a surprise attack against the flank of the the left front attack force of the orcs. Meanwhile Ronald took out orcs with his bow one by one (he rolled his dice like a god that evening) and Yasira did spend her remaining spell points for magic missiles and Melfs Acid arrow, the rest she finished with either her sword (if they came through) or with her bow.In the end two orcs from the top attack group were left fleeing the battlefield and 2 orcs from the left attack front were running away as well (missed morale check).
