Message: <blockquote data-quote="The_Universe" data-source="post: 1162399" data-attributes="member: 8944">TEWLIGEN AND AMOS_STEN:  Talk about something scary, or TAKE IT OUTSIDE!  Quite frankly, this little discussion between board members about just how accepting we need to be is starting to piss me off.  This kind of talk works its way into nearly EVERY THREAD on these boards.  Is there some secret contest going on that I don't know about?  Are there bonus points for saying "person X is an offensive, fiendish _____aphobic jerk, and I'm the most tolerant angel in the history of the friggin' universe!" ?!?!?   Let's face it, not everybody thinks the same as everybody else, nobody's absolutely right, nobody's absolutely wrong.  To use a christian metaphor, which I'm SURE will offend someone, and get ME branded as an insensitive neanderthal, you're (that's a general you, not aimed at anyone in particular) not a saint, he/she is not the devil, and you just come off as a pompous, arrogant dink when you try to make it seem like any of the above is the case.  These are boards about RPGs and related nerdery--not a forum for contests of virtue!The guy legitimately brought up a situation, game-related, that he found frightening.  Diaglo did much the same, and we've spent half of this thread deciding whether or not it's okay to be uncomfortable around things that are different! Of course it's okay to be uncomfortable!  It's what you do about the feeling that counts.  Once things cross the line from the mental (feelings) to the physical (touching somebody's leg, biting, punching someone in the nose) it becomes an entirely different matter, and more extreme reactions are perfectly reasonable, and even (for the most part) legal.  I'm a 260 lb. heterosexual white male, and if I tried to 1) bite a guy or 2) rub a woman's leg, one of the following things would happen:  1) I'd get the crap kicked out of me (rightfully, I think) or 2) I'd get slapped.  AND I THINK THAT THOSE ARE REASONABLE REACTIONS!  However, THAT IS NOT THE TOPIC OF THIS THREAD!  So PLEASE tell me something scary that happened in game, or with your game group, or near a game, or a game that's naturally scary, or SOMETHING...or get out.  I don't want to hear it.  Please, (and I ask this with all the sincerity in the world) stop wasting my flavor.</blockquote>
