And yet they appropriate their bad guys (i.e. demons and devils). The irony there is almost every major Devil or Demon is itself an appropriation of a Near Eastern tribal deity. 'Course sometimes the Christians would appropriate a local deity and make s/he into a Saint or something else. Thus, the devil has horns like Pan, or might appear more wild like the Celtic Great Hunt God, or might be as harmless as Santa Claus, who originally was none other than Thor, except Thor or Thror's sleigh was pulled by magic goats. I read somewhere that there was a local deity near Persia named Shaitan, btw.</p></blockquote><p></p>
