Where to game online

CrazyMage

4th Level Lawful Good Cleric
I know this topic has come up before, but I didn't pay attention then.

I've been playing a game with a good friend in Colorado who will be moving to Japan in a couple of months and would like to continue our game. We've been playing via MSN Messenger which has proven adequate for our needs. But then I tried upgrading to MSN Messenger 5, which won't work (can't load anything from internet; won't log in; apparently many others are having similar problems). The old version of Messenger worked, but that's gone now (unless there's someplace I've missed for getting the older version).

We'd prefer not to do Play by Post or Play by Email.

So the question is, what's the best place for an IRC game?
Note:
--not looking to join a game, already got one
--not looking for players, already got one
--doesn't need all kinds of fancy stuff

Just looking for someplace that has a place for us to use for our own game.

Thanks for your help

Don't make me bat my eyes to get attention, because no one is going to like that.

Anyone got a suggestion, or am I looking for, as the Germans would call it, an Unding

Thanks for any help.

Hmm have you tried programs like Web RPG or Open RPG? Open is free. Ive played Web RPG and its ok. Java programs woth ability to share maps, minatures.

Some people like it some dont't.

Err... hate to state the obvious, but what about psionics.net?

The same network that provides the room for EN World (#dnd3e) also allows you to make your own rooms and you can invite either BoxCars or Golem to the channel to use as a dicebot. Make the channel private if you don't want sticky beaks poking their noses in.

A bit of possibly relevant trivia: There is no such thing as free phone time in Japan. Even local calls cost money. Unless you plan to pay for DSL over there, things are going to get expensive...
