The player characters started as 1st level nobodies. During our very first session, the guy playing a gnome spellcaster made a beeline through Shadowdale for Elminster's tower , to seek an audience with the famous wizard. (The gnome had nothing important to discuss with Elminster; the player did it just for the heck of it.) As DM, I had Elminster's house servant answer the door and turn the PC away, telling him that Elminster was not at home and/or he couldn't be bothered. The player was persistent. He went back a day later, but still was turned away.</p><p></p><p>Finally, after a couple of game sessions, and after several attempts to get past the front door, the player character got insistent, demanding to see Elminster. Sighing, the servant let him in and escorted him down the hallway, to an ornate door. "This way," said the servant, opening the door for the gnome. Grinning, the player character passed through the doorway... and found himself standing outside, at the back of the tower.</p><p></p><p><img src="http://www.enworld.org/forum/images/smilies/laugh.png" class="smilie" loading="lazy" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing :lol:" data-shortname=":lol:" /></p></blockquote><p></p>
