So the last poll got bogged down in a weird contest of "which cleric should stay and which one should go," and didn't really answer my question. It's my fault; by trying to come up with a clever way of saying "cleric vs. cleric," I used a misleading phrase from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. I really only wanted to know which cleric you enjoyed playtesting the most.

So let's try this again. Which flavor of cleric did you enjoy playtesting the most....the Cleric of Moradin, or the Cleric of Pelor? (Sorry for the binary poll; I know a lot of people are chomping at the bit to vote "Both!" lest someone get the idea that only one style of cleric should be in the core. But that's a whole other bag of rats. Search your heart, and vote for your favorite.)

I "enjoyed" the Cleric of Moradin more. But that being said, I didn't really feel that the Cleric of Moradin was a Cleric. It felt like a Paladin or Fighter/Cleric to me.

B-)

I agree! In fact, I was wondering what it would be like to just call the cleric of Moradin a "paladin" instead of "cleric," and test it as such.

On this cleric vs paladin thing...

* He had a "warrior" theme & background, so is semi-multiclassed
*The armor wearing bludgeon wielding cleric is long, long part of D&D lore...especially dwarf ones
*The stand back spell casting priest is arguably less part of D&D lore.

On the other hand, while he had the knight background (I think)...the dwarf cleric is really not like the classic paladin. I guess you could argue that he is close to what a dwarf paladin could be like, but as they gain levels, and the spell casting becomes more predominate. I think you would see a difference. (like no special horse. thats really the difference).

The cleric of Moradin was well-done but heightened many of the concerns I have about whether the 5e team's vision for clerics is too similar to the paladin (or perhaps a 3e fighter/cleric). The cleric of Pelor wasn't quite as flavorful in my opinion but does appear to at least have a niche to itself in-game.
