I ran this as part of an on going 2E campaign in the late 80's. As I recall the group successfully finished it, only to end up as a TPK not too long after. Two things stand out, neither related to the module itself. At one point the PCs got entirely fed up with the character that was being all mysterious and elusive, stopped in the middle of a hall, and began to insist that everyone reveal everything about themselves and what they could do. You know, the sort of thing most parties will do BEFORE setting foot in a trap filled dungeon built in a gyser. They never knew how lucky they were that my rolls for wandering monsters (such as there were in the module) kept in their favor despite constantly increased odds. Also, I had the npc make an extremely obnoxious comment about his great ability with a large portion of his anatomy Eric's grandmother (and mine) certainly doesn't want to read. When the group was later making their way across the hanging platforms over the lava pit, they developed a sound system of getting from one to the next, with PCs up front helping PCs behind come along. The problem? Four of the five PCs were all at least halfway across before they realized they had forgotten to help the last one get started. As DM I wasn't going to say anything, and as the already angry barbarian*, that PC decided he was going to wait and see how long it took the others to realize they'd forgotten him! For myself, I thought the coolest part was the freestanding river. Even though it didn't really DO anything but look cool, I liked it. * the player later assured me that he did enjoy himself, he was just keeping to what he thought his character's mood would be. Ah, Kazak. I wish you were still around to play.
