Who else has Greg Stolze's "Reign"?

Jürgen Hubert

First Post
I finally got my hands on "Reign" by Greg Stolze yesterday - and while I have barely started to read it, I am already highly impressed.

This fantasy role-playing game (using the One Roll Engine, as seen in "Godlike" and "Wild Talents") has a nifty little premise: The player characters are the leaders of some organization or group which the rules call a "company". Such a company can be anything from a noble family, a small cult, or a mercenary company up to a full-fledged nation. Each can be described by five numerical values, "Might", "Sovereignty", "Treasure", and "Influence" which in combination with skills or with each other can resolve conflicts between companies.

Furthermore, player characters can go on adventures in the hope of influencing such rolls. For example, if they want to ruin a rival merchant house, they can attempt to secretly burn down a few of his ships and get bonus dice if they succeed - or loose dice if they fail.

Furthermore, it seems to be pretty easy to combine the company rules with another role-playing game, such as D&D...

So, has anyone else here bought it? What are your impressions? What have you done with it so far?

hmmm... I *want* to buy this - but I'd much prefer a conventional book which I could order from amazon or wh23...

What edition did you get? How much did it cost you (in Euros, incl. shipping to Germany)? How about the physical quality of the book - binding, etc...?

It cost me €40. I bought it together with two copies of Spirit of the Century, and the shipping costs amounted to €2.99 (there's some special shipping price offered by Lulu.com if you live in Europe and order three books or less).

The book is a hardcover, and the physical quality is pretty much the same as with other RPG hardcovers you might buy from other companies.

I have it as well. I'm very impressed with it, though I'm afraid I won't get to play it (my group's preference and stuff).

I paid 28 Euros for a softcover that was ***ked up, Greg Stolze saw to it that I got a hardcover for the same price :)

I'm planning on getting a copy of this at Gen Con. I've heard a lot of good things about it on rpg.net.

I love the company idea. That would be a good part to steal for any game.

As it happens, they don't sell the softcover any more. Apparently, Lulu.com uses different companies for printing the covers for hardcover and softcover books, and the latter wasn't able to cope with the cover.

In what way was it screwed up?

Pages were mixed up, so they went something like 1, 184, 3, 185....

Just a note, Jurgen. Leisure Games in the UK has a restock of Wild Talents, which IMO (though I don't have that book) is needed for a complete generic fantasy ORE game. I've been told it's been sold out, so now might be the time to get it. With shipping to Germany it will set you back £36.

Thanks, but I already have that one... :D

Are "Might", "Sovereignty", "Treasure", and "Influence" supposed to be the "five" numerical values or are the numerical values in addition to those four? If they are, what's the fifth?

Sorry about that - I forgot "Territory".
