TSR Who or What am I? Dragon 94 Cover by Clyde Caldwell

This little fellow graced the cover of the dragon issue 94 alongside a female ranger. Lets make a contest of who describes, defines or makes stats for the furry fellow; most likes on the answer post wins. (thought of this in the dragon 94 review thread, check it out)
familiar? animal companion, npc? reincarnated character? extraplanar critter from the happy hunting grounds? what do you think? is that magical swag he or she's packing?

I'm going with a slow loris (Nycticebus spp.) that's had the Awaken spell cast on it by a high level druid associate of the ranger. I shall call it Tim.

The one in the artwork is bigger, so going with a Giant Loris.
