In the end, the party managed to defeat Silven, turn him to stone, and "lose" him on the ethereal plane using a Leomund's Secret Chest spell.</p><p></p><p><a href="http://www.cloud.morecooler.com/Aera%20Files/NPCs%20of%20Aera/Ellison%20Lance.htm" target="_blank">Ellison Lance</a> is an assassin who works for the Phantoms, my world's primary assination orginizations. Cunning and quick, Ellison once fought the entire party single-handedly (party was around 7th level, 7 of them), managed to capture an important NPC (prompting the party to track him down). The party only defeated him once, but did not kill him. Instead, he traded his freedom for information. Later in the campaign, his respect for the party (partly due to sparing his life) allowed him to moderately assist the party against another villain.</p><p></p><p>Armathon Enforo (lich, Clr12) was a lich on a mission. The party and himself each sought the same set of magic items, when combined would create a medallion that provided a great deal of power (an uber-magic item, but relatively balanced since most bonuses were small). The party went several rounds with the lich and his undead, and ended up stopping one of his deadly rituals to bring a super-demon into the world. Due to a previous failing, the party actually destroyed the lich, but never knew it (they thought he'd come back later due to phylactery, but there was none).</p><p></p><p>Varrius Afus (monk/fighter type17), the powerful leader of the Phantoms attempted to persuade the party to join the organization (while the party was under the control of Silven Nightmantle, they obtained a reputation for ruthlessness and efficiency). Free of the mind control, the party turned him down and attempted to gain one of the sought after magic items from him. In a long drawn out battle, Varrius managed to escape, but had to use the magic item as a deversion to get away. Had our campaign lasted longer, he would have returned with a vengeance.</p><p></p><p>Last, but not least is <a href="http://www.cloud.morecooler.com/Aera%20Files/NPCs%20of%20Aera/Ivelan%20Diamondflower.htm" target="_blank">Ivelan Diamondflower</a>, a "racist" elf who was making a power play to take over several territories. The party was aware of some other conflict in the world, which they were not a part of. The conflict always played in the background, but at the end of the campaign, the party managed to put a stop to Ivelan by imprisoning him in a metal disk at a battle for one of the last "free" cities.</p></blockquote><p></p>
