Who will take up the Printed Game Magazine challenge?

Jolly, you may end up doing so anyway, by default, without changing anything. KODT seems to be the only game in town now as far as dead tree mags go. I don't think the fact that your magazine isn't strictly D20 is an issue - most of your content seems pretty system neutral.

Now if I were you, I'd help the process along a bit by taking full page ads out in the last issues of Dragon and Dungeon. ;)

You could be right. Hey I'm not going to complain. ;)

I guess what I shoudl have said is that was have no plans to make KODT a 'd20 mag'.
We like the current formula of 10 to 15% content on in-house product and the rest general interest. Be it generic, d20, or any other system.

Last three issues that have gone to press DO contain at least one official D&D article each. But they represent only 6 to 7 pages out of 80.

Just another reason I'm drifting further from D&D and closer to Castles and Crusades, we got our own mag...The Crusader.

I was all set to do a fanzine but my funding fell through.

I've been running a Traveller fanzine by myself for over two years, on nothing but my own time and the contributions of Traveller fans. It's possible. To do it right, though, on a professional level would take a little bit more of an investment (or at least a better layout guy than I am, as I am very much an amateur in such things). The use of Lulu.com opens up some opportunities if someone can generate the amount of material required to keep a fanzine going. (It's hard work to do on your own.)

Speaking of which, your latest issue has a problem with opening and the zip file is broken.

Once they get 2004's issues released, they can really start to catch up! ;)

Thanks, I'll look into that tonight and see if I can get that fixed. Strangely, I haven't had anyone else report that as yet. :(

First, my apologies for the temporary threadjacking....

Okay, Frukathka, I looked into this issue at work, and downloaded both the zipped file and the PDF. Both worked fine. Perhaps it might have been a connection issue for you? The PDF was created with Adobe Acrobat 6, so I'm doubtful that it's a versioning issue.

Please let me know what else I can do to fix this problem, because right now, I can't replicate your issue.

With Regards,
Flynn

ROFL!!! That is the most insightful post in the thread!

Long term, I too fall into the camp that believes only Paizo can pull it off (resources, infrastructure, market penetration, reputation). But there is going to be a Dark Age before they can get past their non-compete.

Short term, I think several people will try low-budget attempts to fill the gap (Wolfgang might have a shot at pulling this off...), one or two companies may try to hit the problem big in an attempt to "Paizo" and seize the niche before RealPaizo can get back into the mag-game (which is when kenobi65's prediction comes true), and there will, of course, be WotC's Digital Initiative... which will attract some if only because it will be the only BigGame in town. Personally, I don't believe the DI will ever enjoy the success or penetration that the Mags had. And once Paizo is back in the unbridled game, they'll climb right back on top... unless WotC purposely acts to torpedo Paizo's ability to publish 4E compatible material in some way. Nobody forgot about that forthcoming Sword of Damacles, right? :heh:
