I know this reply is ridicuously late, but I just happened to stumble across this thread again and saw your question. I liked the novel "behind the scenes" take on the story, the way it fits into the "negative space" of A Christmas Carol. It reminded me of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.
