Going in a different direction:

Richard Branson
Lance Armstrong
Jet Li
The Crocodile Hunter
Kevin Mitnick

Only if Mitnick buys the farm in a gruesome and thoroughly nasty way and the others shrug and walk away when it happens.

I've been raking my brain (and google) for any British characters that might fit and all I can think of is Comedies, Dramas, childrens shows and historical period peices (which includes future periods)

The only figure I can think of who could fit is Worzel Gummidge the scarecrow (TV series screen late 70's early 1980's.) All he requires to be recommision is for his head to be screwed back on (and he had a selection of heads to choose from)

Oh and I want to mention Mr Rourke or possibly Tatu from Fantasy Island as needing to have a guest appearance
Scarecrow......hehehehehehehehhehehehehehe.

You do mean Bruce Boxleightner, right?

I'm humming the theme song now. Mrs King...what a babe.

I think Contrarian is trying to say "literature" novel here, as a few of us have been trying to encourage everyone to consider in this thread.

Sadly, literature from the 80's - 90's hasn't had the chance to stand the test of time that lit from 1890 has....so we don't know who the iconic pre-millennial characters are.

Based solely on the fact that we're not able to remember any iconic lit characters from that time, I suspect there are none....

Stephen King characters are absolutely in the running. Who else wrote memorable novels in the 80's and 90's?

(And, breaking my own suggestion, Frank Black would be another cool character to include in the 90's League. ;) )

From books, some suggestions:
Alex Cross? He's gone up against a multitude of freaks (including a vampire cult) and come out on the other side. He tends to be a bit dark, but he's brilliant and skilled.

Jack Ryan or "Clark" (from the books)

I like the idea of Charlene McGee

um, the last survivor of Dreamcatcher? Henry/Harry? the psychic English professor

Eh, all I've got. I tend to read 18-19th century stuff.

Hawk, from the Spenser novels (aka Spenser for Hire). Or Spenser himself. (Wikipedia throws out the notion that Hawk may be modeled on Talus, the sidekick of Artegal, the knight of Justice, in Book 5 of Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queen - which makes one wonder if there are further connections.)

This is especially appropriate given Lee Majors' appearance on Jake 2.0 as an agent who hinted at the existance of previous enhancement programs.

I agree that Lamont Cranston is a good choice.

yes that was the kewlest moment in the series:) (I did like Jake 2.0)
