I can only answer for me, but here it goes. From all the designer and developer thoughts that have been released/leaked to this point has so far completely underwhelmed me. In fact, I would say the the direction they want to take the game is 900% in the opposite direction I want to go with my gaming style and purchases. I've played every version of D&D since basic, and the main reason I switch editions is because I was always less than satisfied with the current edition. I grew tired of having to house rule to correct design assumptions and engine problems. the main reason I stuck with D&D for so long was the brand name. And even that wasn't enough for quite a few years, as I switched to Rolemaster a few years into 2e. 4e nearly perfectly matched what I was looking for in a game. By no degree will say it was perfect, but it enabled me to run the games that I have always wanted to run, right out of the box. 4e never failed me, if anything WotC failed me. They are abandoning a good system, a fixable system, to try to build something that the OSR AND the 4e crowd will probably reject as too different, to bring back gamers that are perfectly satisfied with Pathfinder and Paizo's business practices. If I really wanted an OSR game, I still have my older edition books. I have Pathfinder too. Hell, I have virtually every OSR clone out there. And none of them scratch my gaming itch like 4e did and still does.
