Why are they making demi-humans taller?

Why are they making demi-humans taller? I think I have a hunch, but I want to see what you guys think.

But they wouldn't have needed to make elves "superior" to humans then. I don't think that's the reason for dwarf and elf...

Height has no indication of superiority, but it might be part of the reason why elves are so full of themselves.

Maybe a reason in R&C?

I was kind of hinting at that..but I'd get attacked if I said it.. ;)

What about dwarves then?

In the case of halflings, a three foot tall human child can't even hold a pencil with one hand. (Well, that's what one developer said, back before 4e was announced.)

I'm going with the "all core races are medium size" too. Without Gnomes you'd have to put small weapons and stuff in the book just to equip the halflings. Would be kinda strange. So now the Halflings may be on the lower end of the medium size, which would mean that they can wield normal weapons (I'd like that very much. Makes random treasure way more appealing to Halflings). Maybe they now get a -4 modificator when figthing with a two handed weapon or something like that.

And concerning elves, i believe Rich Baker said something about bringing the standard of the Forgotten Realms (where elves are actually as tall as men) to the core rules. Which is fine by me, as i've never seen a short elf in any game i've ever played in.
