Everyone will have a different threshold of what sounds reasonable, and whether compoundwords are relevant to it or not. Shadowfell sounds perfectly iconic and thematic to me. Shadowdark, on the other hand, sounds silly.  Thing is, some folks seem out to portray the very use of compound words as intrinsically bad. Which seems to ignore both the many, many silly names seen in the game since its inception, as well as how subjective such opinions are.  I'm cool with people disliking them, but sometimes it seems like there is a desire to claim they are objectively bad names, and I don't buy that. Particularly since the usual practice of pointing this out is to invent some especially egregious examples that don't actually exist in the game.  Sure, Duckbeard Bladesmackers isn't what I want to find as the name of a monster. I also don't want a monster named a Frider or a Grider, but that doesn't make the name Drider inherently bad, either.</blockquote>
