I do not currently subscribe, but I am considering changing that. I have a few reasons for this, and I offer this up as constructive criticism. In the past, I didn’t subscribe as I wasn’t into what was being offered in return. One of the reasons to subscribe was to gain additional forum functions. Some of it makes sense, like a custom user title. Still, other parts don’t make sense, in particular the private message and search functions. These are items that any other forum offers for free. In a sense, I feel like I’m not being given full forum functionality when advertisers already help to support the site financially. My recommendation here would be to allow the search and PM functions for free to everyone and to focus on your other “rewards” programs. Another reason I didn’t subscribe in the past was that I felt the moderation wasn’t quite up to par. EN World has been referred to by some as “Extremely Negative World.” I have to admit, though, that the quality of moderation has increased quite a bit, so I’m glad to see that. Where you are doing really good right now is in giving fans a “reward” for their subscription. War of the Burning Sky is a great reward idea, and though I’ve purchased it already, I’d be interested in the 4e version. Space Fight also looks fun. Reminds me of what I was trying to accomplish with the SciFi Smackdown podcast. My advice is to keep making the “rewards” worth our while. Focus on what you can give fans back in return for their support, above and beyond the basic community. Keep producing that exclusive content, and I think you will have more subscribers. One of the ways that EN World really shined in the past was in terms of news. Oftentimes, I would find out news at EN World prior to anywhere else. News updates aren’t as frequent as they used to be. I still find out things here that I don’t hear anywhere else. So maybe a stronger focus on news would help out too. I appreciate all that EN World has done and for being a source of information and entertainment for me for all these years. Again, this is all meant as constructive criticism. Take care, and keep those dice rolling.
