Why do guns do so much damage?

The powder creation process is quasimagical and the results are only usable by gnomes (and hobgoblins because of campaign plot advancent reasons).</p><p></p><p>The actual impetus for me introducing firearms in my campaign was as an enticement for the players to pick a gnome as a martial character option.</p></blockquote><p></p>
