why low magic(moe ronalds keep out)

First Post
Recently my Dm (you know him as moe ronalds) notified that his next campaign is going to have verry little magic, and only have somwhat magical creatures as myths only few have ever seen. i find myself wondering, why low magic, why would that be so interesting instead of having a world where magic is apparent everywhere?

please explain what would make this preferable to other campaign ideas?!?

(sorry if this sounds like a rant, because it is)

take a peek in the other similarly-themed thread going on right now. And then, my advice would be -- trust your DM and give it a try for a while and see what happens.

Here's some interesting low-magic ideas that can't be used in high or normal magic conditions:
  • Magic is seen as mystical and obscured. It can be greatly rewarded or feared. Even a simple 0 level spell can send hundreds of commoners running away scared for their lives.
  • Magic is uncommon, so magic items are rarer. They are deemed more valuable and players will utilize this in exploits when buying and selling them.
  • Even low-level wizards and sorcerers become celebrities in the eyes of commoners. Fanmail, gold pieces, and pleas come from followers.
  • Magical guilds become more mysterious and can introduce players to the enigmatic creatures that the government protects us from.

I'm probably just repeating stuff from the DMG, but there's plently of low-magic ideas out there.
It's all based on personal preferences.
