ARGH my gol darn firking playesr TOSS my miniatures around!! its killing me. When they attempt a grapple all i hear are my finely painted pewter playing peices clinking agsint one another, paint chips flying, and obese stinky unhygenic hairy gamers chortling all the way!!
i yelled last week, the big one looked scared, like when you yell at a bear at YellowStone. The thing is just like that bear i am sure he will be back, and this time not to eat my picnic basket!!

These guys are my friends and they know it takes hours to paint them but for somereason they think fully painted miniatures grow on trees!

These guys are good people, they are understanding, helpful, dependable people of a political bent to my liking but they have zero respect for my miniatures or books.
SHEESH!!!!!!

anyone else have to play with tempermental monkeys with the grace of aslothful 2 legged mutts?

I know what you mean i spent like 8 hours painting one mini, and then the stupid players just smack them together, flick them over!!!, or drop them!!!!! Don't they get it?!

Use only unpainted miniatures for NPCs/monsters. Then inform the players that their miniature accurately represents their characters' physical condition.

"You lunge at the wizard, attempting to thwart his spell casting ... OH MY GOD!!! ... your upper arm is suddenly flayed to the bone; take 5d10 damage."

"As the bugbear swings at you, your full plate +5 begins to flake away ... OH MY GOD!!! it's only cheap pewter armour treated with a laquer. Drop your AC by 10!"

Begin to gradually reintroduce painted adversaries once they have learnt their lesson.

Or you could pay a professional painter to fix the damage, and pass on the bill.

With regard to your books - well, I am of the heretical belief that roleplaying books get damaged and that there's no point getting distraught. However, that just means that accidents will happen, not that they shouldn't be treated with care. If there is no sign of care at all, I suggest stabbing the players in the eyes with pointy bits of the miniatures whenever they mistreat your valued tomes.

I used to play with players like this. The solution I found is to make everyone use and paint there own character minis. Then they realize the effort that goes into it. I play 40K and until I got into that game I didn't really have the respect that I do now for painted figs.

I'm glad my players would never do that. It probably helps that they all have minis of their own.

Of course you could just buy a bag of plastic army men and tell them they have to use those until they "grow up" enough to use real minis. ;)

I couldn't sympathize more. It's been a long, painful process getting my fellow gamers to respect the minis properly... although, truth be told, most of the pain has been on my end of it all, not too mention a couple of my poor minis that have been battered severely.

The regulars have slowly started to come around, but I always have to be wary around newcomers who are used to treating minis like their old playground action figures.

I have a little extra influence though, in that I am usually DM - hurt my minis, and I hurt your PC... just kidding... sort of.

Cheers.

My God, you guys can afford minatures? And Paint!? I use little bottles of paint as my mini's. The fighter is Blood Red, the Mage is purple, the thief is black and so on.

Some people...... I swear.

I would just start replacing 'their' miniatures with formless lumps of play doh. Worst offenders first. When they are killed or knocked out in combat take the playdoh and smoosh it onto thier character sheet.

Repeat as necessary (better if you don't even explain why you are doing this :D )
